Computers Are About Trying To Murder You In A Lake

I heard a short presentation on knowledge management on Thursday night:
"Everyone always wants new things. Everybody likes new inventions, new technology. People will never be replaced by machines. In the end, life and business are about human connections.

And computers are about trying to murder you in a lake."

  1. Doug,

interesting quote... "in a Lake". Not sure if I get the reference however, the previous paragraph made a lot of sense to me.. I recently attended a workshop about building and maintaining online communities - and the further we got through the workshop the more I realized it was all really applying what we do automatically in social groups in an online space... not sure why this was not obvious to me at first, however that being said the online space does for me offer the promise of peer production - something not easily achieved in the physical world, except by collocated teams.

  2. Ben (and anyone else who missed the reference) -

The quote was from The Office on NBC:

    (one of my favorite shows)

The "murder you in a lake" was a reference to the GPS in his rental car sending him into a lake.

I was struck by the applicability of the quote to knowledge management. Most KM people decry that knowledge management is not about the technology. I laughed thinking of taking it to the extreme of technology trying to kill you.
